Using Argo in Windows 10/11?

Just before 2022 ended, I ran across a possible way to get at least part-time Internet access at my farm listening post. Finally, I may soon be able to operate a grabber, upload to WSPRnet in real time, and send timelier reports from the field. But...

First problem, though: My trusty but ancient Acer Windows 7 laptop developed charger port problems earlier in the year. Not only could the alleged computer shop not repair the charger port this time, they ended up ruining the entire motherboard in the process! Bottom line: I no longer have a workable machine with either Windows 7 or 8 on it.

Second problem: Argo will not work properly on Windows 11, as I found out when I bought a new HP laptop. It starts OK, appears to run, but will not capture the waterfall display in the images! Only the outer shell of the Argo screen shows. And, it also refuses to save WAV recordings...if you start one, it appears in the file manager but remains 0 bytes size, and disappears immediately when you click Stop. I think I've done everything you can possibly do with compatibility mode, to no avail.

Third problem: Having once before run Argo with only minor difficulties in Windows 10 (occasional lockups, but otherwise full functionality), I bought a refurbished Dell laptop with 10 on it. Exact same result as with 10! Argo installs, starts, runs, saves a lot of empty waterfall displays in the captures, won't save WAV files at all, and is immune to the ministrations of compatibility mode.

Suggestions for viable alternatives-- or better still, workable fixes for Argo because its default settings are just about the best matched-filter detectors possible for each selected mode-- will be most welcome.

John
