Hi Bob, I don't know your qth location, but I'd assume you were in range of at least one Navtex station. Perhaps, you're swamped with noise, either "in house" qrm or utilities, I don't know. If I had that 60 ft. wire, I'd try a 9:1 balun in autotransformer mode. The low impedance side would connect to the coax as normal and the high side to the 60 ft. wire. That mode has each side of the transformer as common and connects to the coax shield. I've had good success with that setup. The balun could either be a toroid or binocular such as a BN-73-202. You may find that to reduce noise, you might also need a 1:1 balun at the receiver for the incoming coax. In my case it was needed... a direct coax connection to the receiver caused noise problems.

I use fldigi for navtex, having set the rx to 517 khz USB and the cursor in fldigi on 1000hz.
