Ed,

Yes, I have used torrids out of e-waste as well as the other transformer shapes in a bunch of my projects. Most of the transformer devices can be carefully disassembled and re-wound. If one does break, just super glue it back together.

A couple drawbacks are that I can't describe how to duplicate a circuit that works, and getting a circuit to work is a lot of try and fail. My success rate runs in the 1 in 20 range.

I do have a good working Low Noise Vertical antenna using junk box ferrite and a couple PA boards for LF transmission loops.
