The mention of "Long wave also provides a connection to things "as vast as the cosmos"" is certainly an important part of this issue. I have been around long enough to remember in the 1950s when my older brother let me put on the earphone and listen through his home built crystal radio. Much of the content of broadcasting benefits with the new technologies that avoid the natural medium of the ionosphere and the effects of space weather. But the challenge of listening to far away places direct from their own home cultural environments added something the the newer technologies seem to miss. It's not just all words, but the actual challenge and experience of sending and receiving messages, and music, and feel the natural radio influence. But the natural radio environment still remains there in that part of the spectrum to be rediscovered. It is now time to stake claims of that empty space to help the newer generation feel the challenges that are missed elsewhere. New opportunities are there.
