I had thought about building an I-Q type modulator, or using the "Fourth Method" AKA Weaver method for generating SSB. For digimodes applicable to HiFER operations, where the frequency band is relatively narrow, these could be quite a bit simpler than a unit designed for voice comms. The reason for this is that a phase shift only needs to be considered over a narrow band, say around 1.5 KHZ baseband. That is about as far as my thinking has progressed, as we'd likely need another mixer, and a suitable oscillator (especially for the Fourth Method approach) to get an output at 22m, and ideally, to permit fine tuning.
