Brief update - I spent some time this morning setting up a "field" listening station in the kitchen. From here, I can lead ~ 40 ft of wire out of the window and down the garden to the ornamental arch over the back gate.I have a copper pipe ground rod, and brought that wire in to the receiver (a connection to the central heating pipework proved noisy).
At the time of writing, it is still ahead of the scheduled time mentioned for testing at Grimeton, but this has allowed some time to tune around. Initially this wasn't too hopeful, less still when nothing was heard. Then I realised the converter was not switched on... With that out of the way (ahem..) the setup is doing rather well.
The Belka receiver is set in CW mode, with 600 Hz center frequency (tune ~16.6kHz +4 MHz for SAQ). I'm hearing FSK stations strong enough to move the S meter at 17.9, 19.2, 21.3 and 23kHz, the MSF time signal on 60kHz and the 77.5 kHz DCF77 signal.
A few NDBs also logged: BZ (Brize Norton), HEN (Hendon), and OX, (nearby Oxford).
Stand by for more :)
