After 3-4 days of listening to Radio Romania on 153 kHz via remote SDR's I believe I have finally figured out why we will probably never hear them here in N.A.Romania has a very strong signal throughout Europe during their afternoon and evening but they shut off their transmitter at 20:00 UTC which is 9 PM local Romania time or our currently 4 PM EDST for the eastern time zone of the USA. So do not bother listening for them after 20:00 UTC unless they change their programming.
Once their transmitter went silent I could hear radio Algeria faintly on the same frequency in the background. Also there is no way Algeria is running 2 MW on 153 kHz based on the strength of their carrier and barely discernable modulation. Algeria on 252 kHz was pounding in as was Morocco on 171 kHz.
I will continue to monitor Romania and see when they resume transmitting. Maybe we can catch them before our sunrise..... What a bummer. 73 Gedas W8BYA
