Can anyone tell me which frequencies in the Long Wave band are being used by Utility Companies?

Oops, make that question for the United States. I forgot this board has quite a few participants from other nations.

William, Rx on 137.7 - XDW
.. The exact frequencies are kept confidential, I guess they are afraid of someone trying to disrupt their system. A very good reference on what they are doing is at:

Hi Fellas,
I've been off LowFER-ing for all this year. Back at it again.
Big signal from XDW (DFCW)late last night and through noon at least, in N ILL.
After midnight another sig appeared abt 4 Hz above XDW, but not ID'd.
At 9AM XDW vy strong and the display broadened vertically, seemingly 4-5 lines per character. Can someone explain what this means?? Possibly the Argo gain too high?
At noon I noticed two signal displays about 1/2 cycle above XDW. Any quess on likely IDs?
Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter,
WD2XGJ is transmitting about 4Hz higher than WD2XDW. Nominally sending QRSS 60 (XGJ) & QRSS 30 (full call WD2XGJ) id's but I've had some trouble with the keyer and it ocassionally locks up and just sends a carrier.
As far as after 9:00 AM, XDW sends a split frequency cw, perhaps that was what you were seeing?

Hi Warren,
After that one-night sighting of XWD nothing seen next few days.
That changed last night Sunday when WD2XGJ was coming in strong at 8:15P local. Took a bit to get whole call but solid copy all through in N IL, 35 Mi S Rockford. I have a bitmap image if needed.
Using a long 3-wire flattop between 2 50-foot towers. Part of loading coil is up at the Tee, remainder at radial conn.
Radials consist of 2 50' welded fence wire screens and many CU wires, all ground top.
Rx is a Drake R8 without preamp for LF work at present.
Wx last week has been cold and stormy, but little rain. Due to the growing grass "problem" will start today to lift/remove some/all of the groung screen and wife's request. %$#@! Loopers hold yer comments! MP & XFX on 137?

Hi all, Re: MP & XFX on 137?
Haven't seen expected LF sigs of MP and WD2XFX, Mitch & Eric.
Anyone hearing these two?
Were they active earlier, as LowDown schedule shows?

Peter,
Both were active during the winter. Eric has taken the XFX antenna down to permit some ham work, but I suspect he will be back in the fall. Mitch was running MP with a temporary antenna, but he has generally shut down each year until the leaves are again off the trees. XES has recently been running WOLF farther down the band, but will be back on 137.779 from time to time.

HiFer back on the air - solar powered
Posted by Tim on May 16, 2005 at 16:26:07.
My HiFer is back on the air.
Frequency: 13.5608 mHz.
Power Output: 4 mW (estimated by measuring relative field strength)
Antenna: 17' vertical
ID: "EEA" at 12 WPM.
EEA is completely solar powered. Employs an Epson SG-8002 to generate signal and uses an 74HCT4020, two 4051's, and a 556 dual timer (as a clock) to generate the ID. Re: MP & XFX on 137?

Thanks and Hi John, The Grimeton Radio Station: a Unique Piece of IT History
Bingo! Saw both XDW and MP on same 30-second screen last night. Ha, given the timing of my post, I felt real good about my "ask and U shall receive" moment when I came in last night and saw the screen lit up.
However, XDW was gone by 3AM, my midnight peek, while MP was still strong at 8AM.
FB on Eric being off at this time.

Grimeton, Sweden - The methods we use to communicate with each other are
under constant development, and technology offers ever more sophisticated
means of human contact.
By looking back, we can get an idea about where this progress will lead us

New solar powered HIFER, Medford MA (FN42)

Hello all,
I am a longtime city-dwelling NDB and LOWFER listener- but I recently acquired a place with a backyard!
Solar powered HIFER "ACE" runs 2mW to a 1/4 wave sloper. ID is sent at 12WPM CW sending "ACE FN42" alternating with 100Hz shift QRSS-3 FSK sending "ACE". Frequency is approximately 13.559542 MHz.
There is a small webpage about the beacon here including contact email:
http://web.media.mit.edu/~matt/ace-beacon/
I will post schematics shortly, as well as any reception reports received.

Caught faint traces of ACE here in West Clarksville NY (FN02) after shutting off my beacon for the night (cloudy day and batteries were running low!).
Receiver is a simple portable Yacht Boy YB400PE, antenna is 38 foot sloper with far end at 210 degrees. Software is Linux-based GlFer.
I'll see if I can get a good capture.

Hi Peter:
Talk about timing ! ! ! ! I
I had just returned May 15th late evening, from a 3 week visit to VE6 land, visiting my daughter. I turned the beacon on the next day - obviously just for you to find .I will be on all Summer except for short listening periods or particularly bad storms. Thanks for the report.

Hi all I wonder if anyone has checked to see how far the "sidebands" from this mode can be detected. I guess its not as bad as Loran-C but it is a digital mode.
