You are correct it was K6FRC. Not sure where the HFC came from!? It was in for quite awhile. Was using the 3 ele beam here at home but also heard it while up on the mountain looking for 6-mtr E-skip at about 8500 feet and heard it a few times on the FT857 and ATAS-120 mobile antenna tuned to 20 meters.

Copied the K6FRC twice today, once in morning around 0900 MST and once tonight at grayline around 1920 MST. Tuned the band for other HiFERs but none heard.

NDB HiFer copied in California
Posted by Paul on June 04, 2009 at 11:04:32.

I am copying NDB HiFer on 13.562 MHz. as I type this. Signal is RST 309 with QSB. Signal peaks are RST 519. The ID is NDB at about 10 WPM CW. The letters sound very distinct too! -. -.. -... Maybe it was planned, maybe just luck, but having that ID really stands out!

Hearing some other peeps on the 22m band, but nothing I am able to ID.

Receiver- R-390A
Antenna- 160 foot inverted L

new medFER beacon plan
Posted by Domenic on June 06, 2009 at 19:00:34.

Hello All, I am going to start up a new medFER beacon and am looking at 1700.3 or 1702.3 any help on the better freq. The QTH is Madison, Wisconsin (en53ao). thanks, Domenic KC9GNK

In reply to new medFER beacon plan posted by Domenic on June 06, 2009

Well, getting it away from the carrier frequency of the broadcasters on 1700 would be preferable. The first option you mentioned is only 300 Hz from the carrier, and well within the sidebands produced by both voice and music modulation. There is less sideband energy to compete with the farther you go from the carrier; although, of course, you can't go beyond 1705 and be Part 15 compliant.

new MedFER beacon
Posted by Domenic on June 07, 2009 at 18:01:14.

Hi All, It looks like this is the place to send the info on my new beacon. The station is located in Madison, Wisconsin EN53AO and is going to be on 24/7 with luck. The freq. is 1703.30 KHz and runs A1A CW at 3 WPM. I am a ham and have been for 25 years with a short break that got me this call. The beacons call is GNK

Thanks Domenic KC9GNK

Should be firing up over the next week or so - freq will be around 137.7752 or so (old WD2XDW haunt) and a tba on 505-510 Khz. Tx antennae will be a E/W loop array with some 400 ft circumference up at around 50ft or less.

Modes/Power will be variable but up to 1.1Kw Class D, 200W Class ABX on 137 and Class D W1VD design amp producing 300-400W on 505-510.

Digital modes and CW from TS870 plus HB transverter - The 505Khz has never been tested and it will take some time to figure out what the feed Z is. Qth Palmer/Wasilla Area BP51 Alaska.
