Thanks for the report, Ray,That is a good summary of what we all might want to know here at LWCA. On a related subject, I was an interesting video earlier this week where a ham used an SDR at the first IF of a tranceiver. In the example used, the SDR software was able to track receiver tuning to provide VFO information, and a two way link to the radio also allowed full control from the computer. Very neat. I'll find a link and share later.
I suppose something similar could be performed with a similarly capable receiver, but the full functionality might not be needed if one is willing to make a few compromises. For the small LW and HiFER bands, this might be a good technique to explore a little wider than looking at the audio and being restricted by an SSB filter.
I nearly went down the full SDR route a couple of years ago, before being swayed into buying the excellent (self contained) Belka DX. However, I may have to explore this tech further to expand the capabilities here at PVC central.
