I am the process of building a beacon. The big wait right now is that I haven't settled on a design for the antenna yet. I am purposely trying to come up with a vertical antenna that can beat 2.1% efficiency. I have some help in the design working feverishly on that now. A cold hard fact that stops a lot of people from trying the Neglected Band (160-190 Khz) is low radiation resistance and thus efficiency. Long wave just took another big hit. BBC4 from England just went of the air a few days ago. You could hear it in the winter in Texas and sometimes during the summer you will see it faintly but not really hear any modulation. I don't know how long your beverage is but it is a great start to hearing long wave. It has to be in the right direction though. I have materials to put an EWE antenna in place and I will point it toward Europe best I can. It should be able to pick up 153 Khz (Radio Antena Satelor) in Romania, 162 Khz (Frances time station), 171 Khz (Médi in Morroco), 225 Khz ( Polskie Radio in Poland), and 252 Khz (Alger Chaîne in Algeria). The best time to hear them is fall and winter. There are a boat load of NDB's around Texas and with time you can identify most of them. The best place to be for long wave is of course the Eastern US. I don't know about the West Coast but I imagine when Russia and a few others had their stations on reception was probably good there. There are Amateur Radio operators on 137.5 but I have not detected any. Probably 3 or 4 on the neglected band and they use some type of slow CW to identify. But they are allowed to use different protocols. There are some real experts in low frequency in this forum but most never say anything. By the way, a new Long Wave station is supposed to come online in the fall. Let's see if that happens. I live near Seguin.
