I suppose that I understand why the US has no long wave broadcasting. One can make many arguments as to why it would'nt be good to have LW broadcasting. But one can make a lot of arguments for it. Our MW broadcasting is crowded and noisy. Our FM service is not long distance so to speak and crowded in many places as well. I would be willing to bet that people who lived in Great Britain and Western Europe didn't really have to complain about noise from BBC4. I have listened to BBC4 from European Websdr's and it was a quality sound and very little noise from many locations. No it is not stereo and doesn't have to be. We didn't listen to it as Hifiers! We listened to it to get a mindset of what is going on in Great Britain and because just doing so was a feat withing itself! Our Short Wave stations have disappeared right and left. The content is mostly not enjoyable, entertaining or educational. I remember as a kid my brother-in-law gave me a short wave receiver (Hallicrafters) and it was a huge impact on my life. I learned from having that receiver. I learned a lot about the world. One thing you see amongst our people is they don't understand how big this world really is. Well I am not trying to make a political statement here. I just believe that radio is a place to learn and enjoy. I would like to see Long Wave used to enhance our living and it can. Some people would say it is a technological waste to even try. Nonsense! Cheap electronics and technology can bring it to peoples hands. Just think about seeing your grandchildren playing video games all day long and what impact it has on their life. If listening to Andalusian Guitar from South America or DX Listening Jukeboxes from the world didn't have an influence on your life maybe you wouldn't understand what I am saying. Radio is a great gift. Learning is a great gift.
