dave, I don't have one of these treasured tomes rumored to contain the secrets of 'ultra-conducting loading coils.' ;-)
moreover the bosses at LowDown once said there had been talks with kornells' heirs about reproducing the copyright materia. the last I heard was a demurral. so maybe it's again time for the LowDown chiefs to resubmit their offer for printing rights. --peter

I have a copy of the 9th edition, I believe the copyright is still in force. I would be willing to contact Ken Cornell's heirs on behalf of LWCA (or private individuals) if someone could give me a contact and phone number.

That said, I believe that Ken's books filled a niche back in the days before the world wide web, but today there is more (and in most cases better) information available for free on the web. A good starting point is ON7YD's website:
http://www.qsl.net/on7yd/136khz_main.htm

There are links to "136 KHz technical pages", "Technical Literature", and a fantastic antenna page on the ON7YD site.

Many other very good sites out there, if you go through them you will amass more information (and more updated information) than was ever in the Cornell scrapbook series.

cheers warren,
well there you have it, dave. warren put it in proper perspective, ie, it's dated info from bygone daz largely a novelty now--and made more so by the work's scarcity.
I'll defer to warren's sage advice, the many web sites for LF now are a boon for the art. sooo, considering all the above I retract my prior 2@. peace to the LowDown mavens. peter

Hi Warren.......
I was tuning around 600 meters and on 9/12 at 02:17 UTC and I heard WE2XGR/2 testing , he had a strong signal, S8-9 on both the E probe and 2'loop. I DF'd him NNW of me, W1VD is in Burlington, CT, I think, so this direction seems correct.... abt 32 miles from my QTH.

Unid transmitter on 25.0 kHz
Posted by Trond Jacobsen on September 16, 2007 at 11:59:03.

Hello Lowfrequenteers

Since more then 13 months back I have been studying an unid transmitter operating on 25 kHz. ( This unid is not to be mixed up with the Russian reference transmissions on the same frequency.)It operates on a 24/7 basis. Currently the transmitter use a HH:00 schedule. ( but data is often transmitted on other non scheduled times too) Data is sendt using a narrow unid FSK / MSK mode, with actual data in short blocks separated by short pure carrier. On spectrograms it look similar to the Chinese mode in use at 20.5 kHz. Using the online spectrograms provided by the WWLL network ( http://webflash.ess.washington.edu/ ) there seems like this unid transmitter has a "eastern" location. The spectrograms from the WWLL site at Lanzhou in China do show the 25 kHz signal as a foldback to 23 kHz on their spectrogram due to overload of their VLF receiver. Same phenomenon observable on the WLL site at Osaka. Bearing from my QTH is 65/245 deg, wich could indicate a location near Changde in China, but at such a great distance it is only a ( qualified ?)guess. I would very much like to hear from others who has received this one, if there is second sources of bearings towards the source we might be able to find out the true location of this mystery. [Hifer] RY off air
Posted by John Andrews on September 16, 2007 at 19:04:49.

Hifer RY is now off the air. Not sure if I'll bother with it next year, as few reports have been received in some time. Thanks to those who did look for it, though.

185301.1 activity
Posted by Mitch VE3OT on September 25, 2007 at 15:23:34.

Have activated 185301.1 beacon for your listening pleasure. Currently 1 watt into my old 137 kHz loop - retuned of course for 185.3.
Everything seems solid now so will leave on for the Winter .
Normal operation at QRSS60 with ID of M P, and 24/7 operation with occasional breaks for listening.

New lowfer beacon "S" on 172KHz
Posted by Sal,K1RGO on September 25, 2007 at 16:09:23.

Well I'm on a roll and finished a class E lowfer design with "S" for an ID running it at QRSS10 on 172.0 KHz which may be running some time in October. I am putting up a temporary antenna for now and I'm going to package the breadboard. I will run by request and do testing on weekends. I'll keep all posted when it's up and running.
